I’ve been playing guitar for 40 years. My inspiration to pick it up was the Beatles, as well as 70’s rock [Kiss, Alice Cooper and Aerosmith]. From there I became interested in progressive rock [ Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis and Jethro Tull] , blues [ Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan], jazz [ Miles Davis, Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin], heavy metal [ Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy], Classical and world music.
I graduated from the Humber College Jazz program with a double major in performance and composition. I’ve studied guitar with Greg Stone, Peter Harris, Tony Zorzi, Rob Bulger and Silvio Simone.I studied composition with Ron Harrison and sitar with Ram Vakkalanka. I’ve also done Conservatory Of Music theory exams up to Grade 4 counterpoint.
I’ve been teaching since 1989 and have taught lessons on guitar bass banjo, ukulele as well as music theory. Since 1992, I’ve taught at the Snider School Of Music in Toronto.
About this Website
Did you just purchase or obtain your first guitar? Are you trying to teach yourself to play guitar and not progressing as quickly as you’d like? Have you been playing for a while feel like you’ve hit a roadblock or a plateau? Are you a guitar player who is wanting to also learn about either the bass guitar, banjo or ukulele? Are you trying to learn about music theory and getting overwhelmed
If you answered YES to any of the above questions, then you’ve come to the right place. With over 25 years of teaching experience, I’ve helped guitar players, bass players, banjo players and ukulele players at all levels progress and enjoy the journey. I’ve also taught music theory for guitarists as well as all other instrumentalists.
Many years ago, I had a student tell me I’d taken the mystery out of guitar playing and made it very clear and easy. That’s the goal of this website, for the guitar as well as in other areas.
In my lessons, I’ve always let the student guide the lessons and gear them towards their interests. If you have any questions, I’ll address them in a blog or video and try to take the mystery out of it.
